Not too long ago I let you all in on the
origins of the Beelzebabe series right here in this very blog. In that post I had the idea to do director's commentary on each episode, so we'll begin with the first one!

Nestor and I were put together for this series and he has been a great collaborator from the start! As mentioned before, this was the second cover idea from Doug our Art Director. This was brought into play right before the comic's release. In comics we have to work far in advance, so by the time we did this cover we were just starting work on the artwork for
Beelzebabe #5.
The first 5 pages of this episode used a lot of purple prose to establish Brooke's character, her life as a college student living in a dorm with a roommate, and her love of masturbating for self gratification. We also drop clues that today seems very different and she's more horny than she's ever been before.
I wanted to show in the first five pages that Brooke is a very likable girl, but she has a few hangups like everyone does. She's a bit of an introvert, very studious (nerdy even), a neat freak, and though she loves the feeling of sex she is very secretive about it... possibly even embarrassed and ashamed of her body and desires. In the quick introduction of her roommate Margo, I wanted to show the opposite of Brooke. Margo is an extreme extrovert, socially popular, messy, and very free with her body without any sexual hangups at all. Though they seem to be from two different worlds, the two girls have a tight bond of friendship.
The episode progresses and Brooke keeps trying to achieve an orgasm, but she keeps getting interrupted every time. There's nothing more frustrating than wanting to cum and not being able to. Brooke is a caring and likable girl, so you're supposed to not only feel her frustrations, but to root for her to achieve her goal.
Brooke thinks she's finally figured out a place where she could be alone to have a peaceful and uninterrupted fap session, but yet again that plan is foiled by dysfunctional fuckbuddies Sabrina and Nyx. Both were designed to seem like characters just tossed in to complicate the plot, but I had long term plans for both. Hints to Sabrina's arch can be found with her name... what's the most popular "
Sabrina" character in pop culture? There's your answer to Sabrina's secret. Nyx was intended to be an asshole that would pop in and out of the series to cause random trouble. I created his name to be a cooler version of "nix" because he's so negative, but then I discovered there's a character from Greek mythology who shares the
same name. I'll be working that angle into later episodes.
Moving on... Not wanting to be found out, Brooke hides in the closet and uses the sounds of their sex to fuel her masturbation and to help finally bring her to a glorious orgasm. That orgasm comes with a price as all three soon discover after Brooke bursts out of the closet to stop Nyx from abusing Sabrina. The last page is the demonic discovery, payoff, and cliffhanger all wrapped in one image!
